Pair Lushnja’s history and Myzeqe food with the natural landscapes of Divjaka. The national park lies about 40 km from Lushnja and brings together Karavasta Lagoon, Mediterranean pine forest, birdlife and the Adriatic coast.
The essential experiences
Divjakë–Karavasta National Park
Explore one of Albania’s most important natural areas, where lagoon, forest, dunes and beach form a rich coastal ecosystem. Stay on marked paths and respect protected zones.
Karavasta Lagoon and pelicans
The lagoon is known for more than 200 bird species, including the rare Dalmatian pelican. Bring binoculars, keep noise low and use designated observation points.
Pine forest and panoramic tower
Walk or cycle beneath the pines, then climb the wooden observation tower for a broad view over forest, lagoon and coast. Check local access information on arrival.
Divjaka Beach
Finish the day on the long Adriatic shoreline. Summer suits swimming and family beach time; outside peak season the coast is peaceful and ideal for walking.
Lushnja and the Congress Museum
Visit central Lushnja and learn about the Congress of Lushnja, a defining event in Albania’s state history. Confirm museum opening hours before travelling.
What to eat
Look for Myzeqe-style lakror, japrak and dollma, cornbread, seasonal vegetables, local dairy products and fresh coastal fish. Family restaurants and farm-based kitchens are good places to ask what is prepared that day.
Two days around Lushnja and Divjaka
Explore Lushnja’s centre and Congress Museum, enjoy a Myzeqe lunch, then continue to Divjaka for a sunset walk through the pine forest.
Start early at Karavasta Lagoon for birdwatching, visit the observation tower and spend the afternoon at Divjaka Beach.
Plan your trip
Best time
Spring and autumn are excellent for comfortable walks and birdwatching. Summer is best for the beach but can be hot and busy, so explore the park early.
Getting around
A car is the easiest way to combine Lushnja, Divjaka and the national park. Ask locally about bicycle rental, guided nature visits and current park access.
How long
One full day covers the park and beach. Two days allow time for Lushnja’s history, local food and a slower visit to the lagoon.
Travel responsibly
Never disturb birds or nesting areas, carry out all rubbish, avoid fires in the forest and follow park signs and ranger guidance.
