Përmet sits in the Vjosa valley in southern Albania. It is a compact base for days in nature: soak in warm mineral pools, walk beside a dramatic canyon, raft or kayak on the Vjosa, then return for local wine, raki and gliko.
The essential experiences
Bënja Thermal Baths
Warm mineral springs collect in natural-looking pools beside the Langarica River. The stone Kadiu Bridge and the mountain setting make this the region’s signature half-day trip. Bring water shoes and avoid leaving valuables unattended.
Langarica Canyon
Continue beyond the bridge into the canyon when water and weather conditions are safe. The narrow limestone walls create one of the most memorable landscapes near Përmet. Do not enter during heavy rain or high water.
Vjosa Wild River National Park
The Vjosa landscape is made for river beaches, rafting, kayaking, hiking and wildlife watching. Book water activities with a qualified local operator and follow current river conditions.
Përmet town and City Stone
Walk the quiet centre, the riverside and the large rock known as Guri i Qytetit. The top rewards a short climb with a broad view over the town and valley.
Leusë and the Church of Saint Mary
A walk or short drive above town leads to Leusë village and its heritage church. Dress respectfully and check locally before visiting, as access can vary.
What to eat
Përmet is strongly associated with gliko, fruit or nuts preserved in syrup and traditionally served to guests. Look for local cheeses, honey, seasonal dishes, wine and raki. Small family restaurants and guesthouses are often the best places to ask for regional specialities.
Two days in Përmet
Explore Përmet town and City Stone, have a slow local lunch, then spend the afternoon on a guided Vjosa activity or by the riverside.
Visit Kadiu Bridge and the Bënja thermal baths early, walk toward Langarica Canyon only if conditions are safe, and return for gliko and dinner in town.
Plan your trip
Best time
Late spring through early autumn offers the broadest range of outdoor activities. Summer can be hot and busy at the baths; go early. River and canyon conditions vary after rain.
Getting around
A car gives the most flexibility for the thermal baths and villages. Local taxis and organised tours are alternatives. Confirm transport times directly before travel.
How long
Two nights cover the highlights at a comfortable pace. Add a third night for Hotova–Dangëlli National Park, village visits or another river activity.
Travel responsibly
Carry out all rubbish, use refillable water bottles, respect protected areas and choose licensed local guides for river and canyon activities.
