Pogradec sits on the Albanian shore of Lake Ohrid, surrounded by fishing villages, clear springs and mountain scenery. It is a relaxed base for discovering Lin, Drilon and Tushemisht, with Saint Naum and the UNESCO-listed old town of Ohrid within reach across the border in North Macedonia.

The essential experiences
Pogradec lakeside
Walk the promenade, pause on the beach and enjoy the changing colours of the lake. The centre is easy to explore on foot, while cafés and restaurants make the waterfront especially pleasant in the evening.
Lin and its peninsula
Explore the stone lanes and traditional houses of this small village on a beautiful peninsula. Above the village are the remains of an early Christian basilica known for its mosaics, while the shore is ideal for a quiet meal and lake views.
Drilon springs
Follow shaded paths beside clear spring water, small bridges and lush vegetation. Drilon is an easy nature escape close to Pogradec and a popular stop for families, gentle walks and traditional lakeside dining.
Tushemisht village
Stroll among old houses, stone lanes and water channels in one of the area’s best-known villages. Tushemisht combines local character, guesthouses and restaurants with quick access to both Drilon and the nearby border.
Saint Naum
Just beyond the border, the monastery of Saint Naum stands above the lake beside remarkable springs. Allow time for the monastery complex, the water, the gardens and the wide views across Lake Ohrid.
Ohrid old town
Continue to Ohrid for cobbled streets, traditional houses, churches, the ancient theatre and Samuel’s Fortress. The Church of Saint John at Kaneo is one of the lake’s most recognisable viewpoints.
What to eat
Look for local lake-fish dishes, including koran when legally and seasonally available, along with baked fish, lakror, fresh salads, village cheeses and regional preserves. Ask restaurants about the day’s local specialities and the origin of fish served.
Three days around Lake Ohrid
Explore Lin in the morning, continue to Pogradec and spend the afternoon and evening along the lakeside promenade.
Visit Drilon and Tushemisht at a relaxed pace, with time for the springs, village lanes and a traditional lunch.
Cross toward Saint Naum and continue to Ohrid old town. Carry the required travel documents and allow time for border formalities in both directions.
Plan your trip
Best time
Late spring and early autumn offer comfortable walks and fewer crowds. Summer is lively and ideal for the waterfront, while winter is quiet and atmospheric but some services may be limited.
Getting around
Pogradec is walkable. A car, taxi or organised transfer is useful for Lin, Drilon, Tushemisht, Saint Naum and Ohrid. Check transport schedules before relying on cross-border connections.
Crossing the border
Ohrid and Saint Naum are in North Macedonia. Entry rules depend on nationality and can change, so verify valid documents, vehicle insurance and current border requirements before departure.
