Plan your trip
Best time
April to June and September to October are ideal for the city and lake. Choose June to September for swimming at Velipoja, expecting crowds in July and August.
Getting around
Walk or cycle in the centre. A car is useful for Rozafa, Mesi Bridge, Zogaj and Velipoja; local buses may run but schedules should be confirmed locally.
How long
Allow four days for the complete city, lake and beach route. Add separate days if continuing into Theth, Koman or the Albanian Alps.
Safety & nature
Wear grippy shoes at Rozafa and Mesi Bridge, check swimming conditions, protect yourself from summer heat and never disturb wetland wildlife.
This guide uses Albania’s official tourism information and established cultural and nature sources. Hours, transport, road access and seasonal services can change; verify locally.
